Country houses, farmhouses and converted barns in Bedford, Pound Ridge, Katonah and North Salem often call for a floor with real texture. Our Otter Creek floors are prefinished in a UV matte oil, with hand-scraped and heavy sawn surfaces that suit those houses.
Here is how the range divides by texture and tone.
Hand-Scraped Oak: Carter and Leisch
Carter has a handscraped look with long lengths and a neutral color palette, which its page describes as a rustic design for the home. It comes in 5" or 7" widths, or random widths of 4", 5" and 7".
Leisch is a hand scraped oak with rich deep tones and long lengths, described as a great option for an antique and rustic look. In a living room with a stone fireplace and exposed beams, either one gives the floor the same handmade quality as the rest of the house.
Deeper Tones: Sturzl and Riley

Sturzl is an oiled oak with rich cocoa tones and long lengths, described as easy to maintain with an antique and rustic look. It shares the same width options and UV matte oil finish as the rest of the range.
Riley is a hand-scraped antique oak with dark hues, a UV oil finish and long lengths. Its page describes a warm and comfortable space. Darker tones suit a library, a study or a tack room conversion, where they read as aged wood rather than a stained floor.
Heavy Sawn: Stratford, Hewitt and Auburndale

Heavy sawn milling leaves visible saw marks on the face. Stratford is a maple with light to dark brown color variation and heavy sawn milling, in random widths of 3-1/4", 4", 5" and 6". Hewitt is a heavy sawn red oak with dark hues, at 5" wide.
Auburndale has a reclaimed antique appearance, a rich matte finish and heavy sawn milling. Its page notes it works for wallboarding as well as floors. A heavy sawn floor suits a barn conversion or a great room with a high timber ceiling.

Hand-Scraped Hickory: Aschenbrenner

Aschenbrenner is a hand-scraped hickory, oiled and prefinished, described as suited to any residential or commercial application. Hickory has strong color variation between boards, which the hand-scraping softens into a single, lived-in look across the whole room.
Hickory is a dense hardwood, so it suits a kitchen, a mudroom or a back hall that sees boots, dogs and daily traffic from the barn, the stables or the garden. Our maple and hickory post covers other hard-wearing species in wider formats for comparison.
Solid or Engineered

Each Otter Creek floor is offered as 3/4" solid, or as 5/8" or 3/4" engineered with a 4mm wear layer, in random lengths from 1-1/2' to 8'. Solid suits a wood subfloor in an older farmhouse. Our solid hardwood post explains when solid is the right build.
Engineered is worth considering over radiant heat, on a slab in a converted barn, or in a lower level. We confirm the subfloor and heating with your builder before recommending either. A virtual consultation with photos of the rooms helps us suggest which textures to sample first.
