A house in Southampton, East Hampton or Sag Harbor often calls for a floor that feels settled rather than new. Our antique reclaimed heart pine does exactly that, with four grades that run from heavily textured to smooth and refined.
Below, Joe Avila walks through each grade, the widths and formats available, and how to choose a finish for a house that sees sand, sun and summer guests.
Original Face: Saw Marks and Deep Patina
Heart Pine Original Face keeps the surface the boards carried before they were reclaimed. The product page describes heavy saw marks and a deep natural patina, which is the look most owners picture when they think of an old East End farmhouse.
It is supplied in solid or engineered 3/4" construction, pre-finished in UV Natural Oil, with random widths of 3"-6", 4"-8", 6"-10" and 8"-12". Lengths run from 2' up to 12'. For a great room with long sightlines, the wider ranges let the texture read across the whole floor, and our wide plank collection shows other options at that scale.
Select: The Smooth, Refined Heart Pine
Not every Hamptons interior wants rough texture underfoot. Heart Pine Select has a smooth surface that suits a cleaner, more tailored house while keeping the warm color of reclaimed heart pine.
Select comes in 3"-6" and 4"-8" random widths, in solid or engineered 3/4", and can be pre-finished in UV Natural Oil or UV Matte Oil. The matte oil keeps sheen low, which helps in rooms with strong afternoon light off the water. If you are weighing tone, our guide to light versus dark floors covers how light changes a floor.
Common and Hit-Skip: Character With a Smooth Hand
Between those two sits Heart Pine Common, which pairs a smooth texture with authentic saw marks. It is a good middle ground for a family room or a pool house where you want history without heavy surface relief.
Heart Pine Hit-Skip goes further, with prominent saw marks across a smooth face and widths up to 8"-12". Both grades come in solid and engineered 3/4" platforms and in UV Natural Oil or UV Matte Oil. Seeing the two side by side on samples is the fastest way to choose between them.

Herringbone Cut Heart Pine
Every heart pine grade can also be cut for pattern. Original Face Herringbone is offered in 3" or 4" widths, in solid or engineered 3/4", so an entry hall or dining room can carry the same wood as the plank rooms beside it.
That continuity is the point. A herringbone foyer that opens to plank living spaces in the same reclaimed pine feels considered rather than busy. Our herringbone collection shows the pattern in other species if you want to compare, and finishes include Natural Oil, Matte Prefinish or unfinished for an on-site finish.
Tobacco Pine and Finish Choices for a Summer House
For a slightly different palette, Reclaimed Tobacco Pine uses American pines with a smooth texture and authentic saw marks, in 3"-6", 4"-8" and 6"-10" random widths and lengths from 2' to 12'.
Across the heart pine range, the product pages list UV Natural Oil, UV Matte Oil, Matte Prefinish or unfinished, with custom finishing available on request. A pre-finished oil floor means less work on site, which matters when a house needs to be ready by Memorial Day. Engineered platforms are worth a look for slab or radiant-heat conditions, and a virtual consultation is the easiest way to sort that out.
