New Canaan is known for its mid-century modern houses, and many homes there and in Westport favor clean, light interiors. Maple suits that look well, and our maple wide plank gives it a modern plank width.
Here is how the maple range is specified and how to choose between grades.
Character Grade Maple: Bravano, Boscarello, Giavina and Castara
Four of our maple floors are ABCD character grade: Bravano, Boscarello, Giavina and Castara. Character grade gives a natural and varied appearance, so the floor reads as real wood rather than a flat surface.
Each is 5/8" engineered, 6-1/2" wide, and pre-finished in a Satin UV Urethane finish. Lengths are random up to 73", with most pieces at 73" on Bravano, Boscarello and Castara. A satin sheen keeps a light floor soft, and our light versus dark guide covers how pale floors behave.
Select Grade Maple: Monti
For a quieter surface, Maple Monti is a select grade with minimal knots. The product page describes a light natural tone with a subtle wire-brushed texture that enhances maple's smooth, clean grain.
Monti is wider than the character grades, at 7-1/2", with a 5/8" engineered build and random lengths up to 73". It carries a Matte UV Urethane Aluminum Oxide finish. In a glass house or a modern addition, a clean select grade floor keeps attention on the architecture and the landscape outside rather than on the boards themselves.
Engineered for Glass Walls and Radiant Heat
Modern houses often combine large expanses of glass, concrete slabs and radiant heat. The maple pages note that engineered construction allows installation over plywood or concrete, and Bravano lists floating installation methods as well.
That flexibility helps when a renovation joins an original house to a newer wing. One maple floor can run across both, even where the subfloor changes, so the house reads as a single space. Our pre-finished range includes other engineered species if you want to compare before choosing.

Pattern Options in Maple
Castara and Boscarello list custom milling in herringbone and chevron cuts. That means an entry or dining room can take a pattern while the rest of the house stays in plank, in the same maple and the same satin finish.
A light maple chevron is a less expected choice than oak, and it suits a modern house that wants a single patterned moment, such as a gallery wall or a front hall. Browse our chevron collection to see the pattern at different scales before deciding.
Maple Beside Oak and Walnut
Maple is lighter and more even in tone than most oak floors, which is why it suits minimal interiors. If you want a warmer floor, our European oak wide plank post covers a character grade oak option, and walnut gives a much darker alternative.
Many owners use maple through the main living areas and a darker wood in a library or media room. Comparing samples side by side in your own light is the most reliable way to decide, and a virtual consultation can help you narrow it down.
