Row houses in Brooklyn Heights, Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens tend to have narrower rooms than a suburban house, with tall ceilings and original detail. Our Stang Lund floors are prefinished in a UV matte oil and come in 4", 5" and 7" widths, so the board can be scaled to the room.

Here is how the range breaks down by species.

Walnut: Forde and Bergen

Forde is described as a great walnut option, with rich brown tones and long lengths that create a rustic and timeless look. Bergen is a walnut with a unique grain pattern, light to dark color variation and a UV oil finish.

Walnut on a parlor floor gives a warm, formal base for marble mantels, plaster cornices and tall windows. Forde has the more even brown tone, while Bergen shows more contrast between boards. Our American walnut post covers walnut grades and finishes in more detail.

Dark Ash: Larvik, Oslo and Geilo

Three floors use ash in dark brown tones. Larvik is described as a modern, classic look with dark brown hues and unique grain patterns. Oslo has dark brown tones, long lengths and a UV cured oil finish.

Geilo is an ash with dark brown tones and distinct patterns, described as creating a modern style and relaxed atmosphere. Ash has a bold, open grain, so a dark ash reads differently from walnut, with more texture and pattern. It suits a renovated garden level with a contemporary kitchen.

Lighter Tones: Hallingdal and Tromso

Hallingdal is a prefinished oiled maple with light tan tones, a rustic appearance and easy maintenance. Maple brightens a top-floor bedroom or a home office, where light is good but rooms are smaller.

Tromso has light brown tones, a smooth texture and a UV cured oil finish, described as a classic and timeless look for any space. A lighter floor upstairs and a darker one on the parlor floor is a common way to give each level its own character. Our light versus dark guide can help.

Red Oak: Stavanger

Stavanger is an oil prefinished red oak with brown hues, long lengths and easy maintenance, described as creating a beautiful, relaxing atmosphere. If a house already has red oak floors in some rooms, Stavanger can sit comfortably beside them.

Where a renovation keeps some original floors and replaces others, a red oak in a similar tone avoids an obvious patch. We can review photos of your existing floors before sending samples. Our white oak versus red oak guide explains the difference between the two species.

Choosing a Width for a Row House

Every Stang Lund floor comes in 4", 5" or 7" widths, in random lengths from 1-1/2' to 8'. In a narrow hall or a small bedroom, a 4" or 5" board keeps the scale right, while a 7" board suits a double parlor. Our wide plank guide covers this further.

Each floor is offered as 3/4" solid, or as 5/8" or 3/4" engineered with a 4mm wear layer. Engineered can help where floor height is tight at thresholds or stairs. We confirm subfloor details with your contractor before recommending one.
