New condos and converted lofts in Williamsburg and DUMBO tend to pair big windows with clean, modern interiors. Our Euro Oak range offers three distinct looks in European oak, each with long boards and a matte finish.

Here is how they differ and which suits which kind of space.

Tableau Renoir: Smoked Wide Plank

Tableau Renoir is European oak in a 5/8" thickness, 8-5/8" wide and 86-5/8" long, with a 4 mm sawn top layer, wire brushed and smoked. The collection is named for French Impressionist painters, with each color interpreting a different element in nature.

Its page describes dramatic wide planks and consistent long lengths. In a loft with exposed brick and timber columns, the smoked tone and long boards give the floor real presence without heavy stain. Our wide plank guide explains why longer boards make a room feel calmer.

Costa Ancona: A Coastal Rustic Oak

Costa Ancona is described as a coastal take on the rustic Old World elegance of wide plank European oak, with natural gray, taupe and caramel tones. It is rustic grade, 5/8" thick and 7-1/2" wide, in random lengths from 23" to 75".

The Costa surface has a subtle hand-scrape and wire brushing, with a smoked treatment, a 4 mm top layer and an ultra-matte UV urethane finish. Its page notes gentle distressing and thick wear layers. In a waterfront apartment with views over the river, its airy tones suit the light.

Europa Danube: Clean Scandinavian Style

Europa Danube is made in Europe in Prime Grade, which its page describes as virtually free of knots for an elegant, uniform look. It is 9/16" thick and 5-1/2" wide, with consistently long 86-5/8" planks.

The surface is smooth with a micro-bevel, a 3.5 mm top layer and an ultra-matte urethane finish in subtle, light colors. In a new condo with white kitchens and flat-panel millwork, Danube gives a clean, modern base that does not compete. Our minimalist species guide covers this look further.

Europa Tiber: Prime Grade With Texture

Europa Tiber shares the Europa specification of prime grade European oak, 9/16" by 5-1/2", with a 3.5 mm top layer. It is wire brushed rather than smooth, with random lengths from 23" to 86-5/8".

The brushing adds a little texture to a clean prime grade floor, which helps it hide everyday marks better than a smooth surface. For a family apartment with children, Tiber is often the more practical of the two Europa floors. Both carry the same ultra-matte urethane finish described on their product pages.

Choosing Between the Three

The choice usually comes down to the building. A raw loft suits Tableau Renoir's smoked wide plank, a light-filled waterfront unit suits Costa Ancona's coastal tones, and a crisp new condo suits the prime grade Europa floors. Our wide plank collection shows more options at each width.

Condo boards often have rules about underlayment and work hours, so we confirm those details with your contractor before ordering. A virtual consultation with your floor plan and a few photos of the light is usually enough to narrow the list to two samples.
