Country houses in Oyster Bay, Locust Valley and Manhasset often combine formal rooms with relaxed family spaces. Our live sawn white oak works across both, with wide planks and colors that range from pale to dramatic.

Here is how the Heritage range is specified and how to choose a color.

Why Live Sawn Oak

Live sawing cuts straight through the log, so a single floor includes a mix of grain patterns. Natural Live Sawn White Oak is described on its page as showing warm, balanced tones and authentic grain patterns for a clean, timeless look.

That mix is what makes a large room feel natural rather than manufactured. In a center hall house with long sightlines, a live sawn floor gives movement without the busy look of heavy knots. Our wide plank guide covers how plank width changes a room.

Widths and Construction

The Heritage floors are 3/4" solid plank with a wire-brushed texture and a custom collection color. Widths include 6"-9" random as well as specified 6" and 8" boards, and the options list 4"-6" and 4"-8" random and single widths up to 10".

Random widths suit an older house where a slightly irregular floor feels right. Specified widths give a more tailored look in a newer house. Wire brushing opens the grain slightly and helps hide everyday marks, which matters in a house with dogs and a busy mudroom. See our live sawn white oak pages for the full options.

Warm Tones: Tuscan, Caramel and Natural

Tuscan is described as rich and earthy, inspired by classic European design. It suits a paneled library or a formal living room with traditional furniture.

Caramel and Natural sit lighter, with warm, balanced tones that work in kitchens and family rooms. Many North Shore houses use one warm color throughout the ground floor so that rooms flow into each other, then switch to something lighter upstairs. Our light versus dark guide can help you think through that choice, and samples of two or three warm tones side by side make the difference obvious.

Cool and Dramatic: Smoke, Charred and Whitewashed

Smoke blends soft gray tones with natural variation for a clean, sophisticated look. Charred goes much darker: its page explains that charring burns the softer fibers and brings out the grain, giving deep, smoky tones.

Whitewashed sits at the other end, with soft neutral tones that make rooms feel brighter and larger. A pool house or sunroom suits Whitewashed, while Charred can anchor a media room or study. Using two colors from the same collection keeps the house consistent in texture and plank size.

A Hickory Option: Urban Driftwood

The Heritage range also includes Urban Driftwood, a live sawn hickory with soft driftwood tones and a wire-brushed texture. It shares the same 3/4" solid construction and width options as the white oak floors.

Hickory brings more contrast than oak, so Urban Driftwood suits a casual family room, a guest cottage or a lower level playroom where a forgiving surface matters more than formality. If you want a calmer oak instead, our European oak overview is a useful comparison before you order samples.
