Estate houses in Old Westbury, Brookville, Muttontown and Lattingtown tend to have large rooms where a floor's tone sets the mood for everything else. Our oiled European oak wide plank comes in eight tones, all wire-brushed and oil finished in the same 7-1/2" format.

Here is how to read the range by tone.

Light Natural: Laviano and Alina

Laviano and Alina both have a light natural tone with a wire-brushed texture and oil finish that enhances the grain and organic variation. Each is rustic ABCD grade with a 4mm wear layer.

Light oiled oak suits a sunroom, a pool house or a family room opening onto a terrace, where it keeps the space bright and relaxed. It also tends to show less dust than a darker floor. Our light versus dark guide covers the trade-offs in more detail.

Natural: Valdoro and Sarentino

Valdoro is character ABCD grade with a natural tone and a wire-brushed texture, finished in oil. Sarentino shares the natural tone, brushing and oil finish, with a 4mm wear layer.

A natural tone is the most adaptable choice for a main floor, since it sits comfortably with both antique furniture and modern pieces. In a large center hall house, it can run from the foyer through the living and dining rooms without feeling repetitive. Our high-end floors page shows more options. Both come in random lengths up to 73".

Modern Grey: Arpino

Arpino has a modern grey tone with a wire-brushed texture and oil finish. Like the rest of the range, it is 5/8" engineered, 7-1/2" wide, with a 4mm wear layer.

Grey oak suits a newer house with a cooler palette of stone, steel and white walls, or a renovated wing that should feel distinct from the older rooms. It pairs well with marble and with black window frames. Our wide plank trends post shows how grey and natural floors compare.

Deep Dark: Norcia, Ginestra and Cisternino

Norcia has a rich dark tone, while Ginestra is described as a deep, rich dark tone. Both are wire-brushed, oil finished and rustic grade, with a 4mm wear layer.

Cisternino shares the deep, rich dark tone and the same specification. Dark oiled oak suits a library, a study, a wine room or a formal dining room, where it gives a sense of weight and quiet. It works best with good lighting, lighter walls and rugs that break up the larger rooms.

Living With an Oiled Floor

An oil finish soaks into the surface rather than sitting on top of it, which gives the low, natural sheen many owners want in an older or more traditional house. Our prefinished collection covers lacquer and urethane floors if you prefer a harder surface coat.

Oiled floors are cared for with products made for oil finishes, and worn areas can usually be refreshed locally. Your installer can recommend a routine before the floor goes down. The 4mm wear layer on these floors also allows for future sanding. Our green benefits post explains why a long-lasting wood floor makes sense.
