Townhouses and apartments in the West Village often have modest floor-to-ceiling heights and tight renovation logistics. Stile Stilnovo, a thin engineered Italian floor, is well suited to those conditions.
Here is how the collection is built and how to choose species, size and finish.
How Stilnovo Is Made
Stilnovo is a two-layer wood floor manufactured by Stile in Città di Castello, Umbria, Italy. The solid wood wear layer ranges from 3.5 mm to 5 mm, over a phenolic multilayer birch support with tangled fibres, FSC certified, from 6.5 mm to 12 mm thick.
Each plank has a tongue on the top and right edges and a groove on the lower and left edges. The thin overall build helps where an older building has little room to raise the floor, such as at a stair landing or a threshold. See the Stilnovo Oak page for the spec sheet.
Ten Species, Six Sizes

The collection is offered in ten wood species, with six sizes from 70 mm wide up to a 240 mm wide plank. Species include oak, walnut, teak, iroko, afrormosia, doussiè, cabreuva and wengè, plus smoked oak in dark and medium tones.
That range lets a townhouse use different woods on different floors while keeping the same build and installation method. A narrow oak on the parlor floor can sit beneath a wider walnut in the bedrooms, for example. Our light versus dark guide helps when choosing tones floor by floor.
Finishes: Oil, Varnish, Naturale UV and Traffic UV
Every size is available with oil, varnish, Naturale UV or Traffic UV finishes. Stilnovo Oak Naturale UV has a 3.5 mm wear layer on a 6.5 mm birch support. Stile floors are finished with Bona low VOC water-based polyurethanes, and stock materials are matte.
Stock materials have a smooth, light brushed or brushed surface, and other textures and gloss levels can be custom ordered from Italy. In a townhouse with children and a garden door, Traffic UV is worth discussing for the main floor. Our pre-finished collection lists the stock options.

Teak, Iroko and Afrormosia
Stilnovo Teak Trend is a 15 by 180 mm oiled plank with a 4 mm wear layer on a 12 mm birch support, in random lengths. Its warm golden tone suits a garden level kitchen or a top floor room with skylights.
Stilnovo Afrormosia Trend Naturale UV is a 15 by 140 mm plank with the same 4 mm wear layer. Iroko is also offered. These species give a warmer alternative to oak while keeping the same Italian build and finishing options.
Smoked Oak and Wengè for Darker Rooms
Stilnovo Smoked Dark Casual has a 3.5 mm wear layer on a 6.5 mm birch support, with random lengths. Smoked Dark and Smoked Medium give deep, even oak tones that work in a library, study or dining room.
Stilnovo Wengè goes darker still. In a West Village apartment with limited daylight, a dark floor can make a room feel intimate rather than gloomy when walls are kept light. Samples in your own rooms are the best way to judge, so we suggest ordering two or three tones together.
