Houses in Greenwich, Darien and Old Greenwich tend to have large, connected rooms where the floor sets the tone for everything above it. Our Forte European oak wide plank range is built for that, with consistent widths, long lengths and a quiet matte finish.

Here is how the collection is specified and how to choose among its tones.

What Defines the Forte Collection

Every Forte floor is European oak, Quercus petraea, in an ABCD character grade. That grade keeps natural knots and variation, which gives a large room texture without needing a heavy stain. Lirano is a good example, with a wire-brushed surface and a Matte UV Urethane Aluminum Oxide finish.

The planks are 5/8" thick and 7-1/2" wide, with random lengths up to 73" and most pieces at full length. Longer boards mean fewer end joints, which matters in a living room that runs the depth of the house. See wide plank flooring basics for more on plank scale.

Engineered Construction for Connecticut Seasons

Forte is engineered, and the product pages note it can be installed over plywood or concrete. Trivara lists that installation flexibility directly, which helps when a renovation mixes an original wood subfloor with a newer slab addition.

Engineered construction also gives the wide boards stability. A Fairfield County house moves between dry winter heat and humid summers, and the layered build of an engineered plank is designed to handle that better than a solid board of the same width. Our pre-finished range shows other engineered options at similar widths.

Choosing a Tone: Florano, Gavello and Helvera

Florano and Gavello are both wire brushed, with Gavello listing a 2mm wear layer. The brushing opens the grain slightly, so the surface reads as natural wood rather than a flat coating.

Helvera shares the 5/8" by 7-1/2" format with random lengths up to 6', and it carries the same matte finish. Choosing between them is mostly a matter of tone against your cabinetry, stone and wall color, which is why we always recommend seeing physical samples in your own light.

Custom Milling: Herringbone and Chevron

The Grazari page notes that custom milling such as herringbone and chevron cuts is available. That means a front hall or library can be laid in pattern while the main rooms stay in plank, all in the same oak and finish.

This approach keeps a large house coherent. The color and texture stay constant, and only the geometry changes from room to room. Browse our chevron floors to see how the pattern sits in a formal space, then compare it with plank in an open kitchen.

Planning a Whole-House Floor

When a Greenwich or Darien project covers several floors, we start by mapping which rooms need plank, which might take pattern, and where the subfloor changes. Matching the Forte collection across those areas keeps one consistent material from the front door to the family room.

Character grade also forgives daily life. Knots and natural variation help disguise the small marks that come with children, pets and entertaining. If you are deciding between oak types, our European oak overview is a useful next read.
